Camaron Zepeda asks Stevenson to take the fight seriously
Camaron Zepeda warned Shakur Stevenson not to get overconfident and to train hard, since they must give a great show to the fans
William 'Camaron' Zepeda asked Shakur Stevenson to take the fight seriously and assured him that he will take the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title from him on July 12 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
In a video published by The Ring magazine in X, Camarón Zepeda warned Stevenson not to get overconfident and to train hard instead of talking so much, since they must put on a great show for the fans.
“I’ve heard some comments from our rival (Stevenson). I just want to tell him to get to training. Not to get overconfident. To take this fight seriously. You have to put on a great show, because on July 12 we’re going to hear: ‘And new’ (champion William Zepeda),” he said.
According to the opinion of experts and connoisseurs of the sport, Camarón Zepeda could cause problems for Shakur Stevenson due to his aggressive style. The American tends to move around a lot in the ring and has been criticized for his lack of action in his fights.
In fact, Turki Alalshikh has already made it clear that he will no longer support runners in the Riyadh season due to the boring fights on May 2 and 3. This will put pressure on Stevenson, and he will surely have to opt for an exchange with the powerful Zepeda.
After surgery on his hand, the American champion returned to action in February and knocked out Josh Padley on a card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Instead, Camarón Zepeda got a rematch against Tevin Farmer and repeated the result of the first fight. With this victory, the Mexican defended his position as the WBC mandatory challenger and will now seek to become the absolute champion against Shakur Stevenson.
William 'Camarón' Zepeda, 28, retained his interim WBC lightweight title against Farmer again and remains undefeated in the sport. The Mexican fighter has a record of 33 wins and no losses, 27 of them by knockout.
For his part, Shakur Stevenson, 26, is coming off a victory over Josh Padley, who replaced the injured Floyd Schofield Jr., to defend his absolute WBC lightweight championship. The American has a record of 22 wins, 11 by way of knockout, and no losses.
