Subriel Matias wants to fight with Pitbull Cruz: Its Mexico-Puerto Rico
Subriel Matias believes that fans would love to see this fight against Pitbull Cruz, who also showed interest in facing him
Subriel Matias, World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight champion, stated that he wants to fight with Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz to define the absolute monarch of the division and star in another historic duel between Mexico and Puerto Rico.
In an interview with FightHype, Matias believes that fans would love to see this fight against Pitbull Cruz, who also showed interest in facing him in November after his victory against Omar Salcido.
It's Mexico-Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico, and the fans know that when it's Mexico-Puerto Rico they're in the ring it's a guaranteed show and I think the fans want this fight. You really ask, who do you want to see me against, if not me against Teofimo, it's Pitbull and Subriel, because we both have something that pleases the fans, "he said.
Let's remember that a few weeks ago Subriel Matias defeated Alberto Puello by majority decision in New York and took the WBC super lightweight belt from him.
Instead, Pitbull Cruz was going to fight Angel Fierro for the second time, but due to medical problems related to the weight cut, Omar Salcido entered as a last-minute replacement. The Mexican dominated the fight from start to finish, connecting many more power punches and took the unanimous decision victory, cementing himself as interim world champion at 140 pounds.
According to Turki Alalshikh, Matias will defend his title in November against WBC number one contender Dalton Smith. Therefore, Pitbull Cruz will have to wait until 2026 for his chance.
For his part, Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz, 26, was crowned interim WBC super lightweight champion in Las Vegas and wants to continue adding achievements to his legacy. The Mexican boxer now has a professional record of 28 wins (18 of them by quick knockout), three losses and one draw.
Subriel Matias, 33, was crowned WBC 140-pound champion by defeating Alberto Puello. The Puerto Rican now has a record of 23 wins, 22 by knockout, and two losses in his career.
