Artur Beterbiev is only focused on the trilogy with Bivol
Artur Beterbiev admitted that he would also like to fight David Benavidez, but he is more interested in Dmitry Bivol
Artur Beterbiev stated that he is only focused on having the trilogy with his compatriot Dmitry Bivol because he wants to regain the light heavyweight titles and wants the fight to be in Moscow, Russia.
In statements to the press during his attendance at the Men's World Boxing Championship At the IBA event in Dubai, Beterbiev admitted that he would also like to fight David Benavidez, the WBC 175-pound champion, but he is more interested in Bivol. “It’s very important for me to regain my titles. (The cruiserweight title) is also interesting. Now I’m more focused on the trilogy. Our fight will be more interesting in Moscow,” he said. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Dmitry Bivol plans to return in the spring and a third fight with the former Russian champion is not in his plans. The unified champion will return in a mandatory fight.
Recall that after winning the rematch against Artur Beterbiev and becoming the undisputed champion, Bivol relinquished his World Boxing Council (WBC) title to avoid the mandatory fight against David Benavidez and thus be able to fulfill the trilogy already agreed upon with his compatriot.
Shortly after, it was learned that Bivol abandoned negotiations with his compatriot to treat his back injury. After returning to training, the Russian still has Beterbiev in mind, but Benavidez is also in his plans.
Artur Beterbiev, 40, was stripped of his undisputed light heavyweight championship and lost his undefeated record in the sport.
The Russian now has a record of 21 wins, 20 of them by knockout, and one loss as a professional. Meanwhile, Dmitry Bivol, 34, took revenge and snatched the undisputed 175-pound title from Beterbiev. The Russian has a record of 24 wins, 12 of them by knockout, and one loss.
