Checo Perez warns how his return to Formula 1 will be
The Mexican Cadillac driver expects to be in the points-paying positions from the start of the season. Sergio Perez wants to enjoy his return to F1
The Mexican Formula 1 driver Sergio 'Checo' Perez stated that his objective next season in his return to Formula 1 will be to enjoy driving the Cadillac, after confirming that his last years in the competition were complicated.
“I want to go back and enjoy it because the last few years were difficult. to return to a Formula 1 that I enjoy and to be working with a team that has the same enthusiasm as me," Perez said last night during a press conference prior to the Los Angeles Dodgers match, in which he made the honorary kick-off.
The 2023 F1 World Championship runner-up with Red Bull will return to racing in Formula 1 next year after a year's break. He himself confessed that he saw it as his “last stint” in the competition, having turned 35.
Perez is, along with Finland's Valtteri Bottas, one of the two regular drivers for Cadillac, the new team that will debut in 2026 in the 'Gran Circus'.
Regarding this break, which came after a complicated last year in which the Mexican was far from the performance of his teammate Max Verstappen, the new Cadillac signing indicated that it has helped him better understand Formula 1 and get to know himself.
“This break this year off the track has given me a lot. I understood a lot about the sport, I understood a lot about myself. When you're in it you're focused on so many things that you don't even realize it,” he revealed.
And he stressed that Cadillac's entry into Formula 1 is not just another one, considering that “in recent years it had never been seen a team that comes in so solid,” which he anticipated would allow them to be in the points “early in the season.”
