Journalist Chris Mannix mentioned that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's plan is to finalize the rematch with Terence Crawford in September to regain his super middleweight belts.
In an analysis for DAZN Boxing, Mannix explained that Canelo Alvarez has no other media-driven options for his comeback, aside from David Benavidez, and that's why he prefers to challenge Crawford.
“Canelo's plan is to face Crawford again next year. He's looking for that fight, probably in September. It's the first time we've heard him say publicly that he wants a rematch. Canelo has nowhere else to go. He's in the final stretch of his career and has already cleared all the relevant names at super middleweight,” he said.
“His team has offered the rematch a couple of times in recent months. The financial motivation is also evident: aside from David Benavidez, no other name generates the media and financial interest that a second fight against Crawford represents,” he added.
In the first fight held in Las Vegas, Terence Crawford was superior to the Mexican thanks to his technique, speed, and boxing intelligence.
