Cruz Azul does not back down and demands a change of referee for the return of the grand final
Daniel Quintero was challenged by Cruz Azul for not blowing the second leg final against Pumas, due to negative factors of the whistler against the light blues
The Cruz Azul board will insist on modifying the appointment of referee Daniel Quintero Huitrón for the grand final against the Pumas next Sunday due to different details he had with this referee in several matches of the regular tournament.
The main argument to challenge the selection of the aforementioned whistler by the Referees Commission is that Quintero Huitrón had several details in the Celeste Machine matches that affected the result, especially in the game against Pumas in the regular tournament, where an action by Willer Ditta opened the door for Pumas' first goal in an alleged foul on Memo Martínez in the 64th minute that led to the penalty scored by Juninho.
In said match corresponding to date 11 between felines and cement workers, Ditta sought to avoid a mark on Martínez, which for the light blues was a reference mark and does not burden the rival, but Quintero Huitrón judged the play differently and the cement workers had a bad taste in their mouths.
For this reason, they decided to challenge the designation of the whistler, supported by the history of protests by Pumas about several whistlers such as César Ramos against the Tigres de la UANL and Luis Enrique Santander in the semifinal against Pachuca, so that the Referees Commission gives entry to this claim.
The moment of uncertainty that Mexico's arbitration is going through with appointments that have bowed to the economic interests of the teams has opened the door to Cruz Azul's claim, which is why, in the event that the high command of the whistlers decides to ignore the challenge, it will leave a negative precedent in the administration of justice, where, under these arguments, it is selective.
The Pumas coach, Efraín Juárez, to make matters worse, was detected in a video where he congratulates Daniel Quintero Huitrón and suggests that he be scheduled for the grand final match, as happened in an uncomfortable situation for the whistler as well as for the coach.
The Referees Commission has been harshly criticized for not having considered World Cup referees Katia Itzel García and César Ramos for these matches, using Ismael Rosario López Peñuelas for the first leg at the Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium and Daniel Quintero Huitrón in the return game.
