Beyoncé releases an unreleased song for the 20th anniversary of her album “B’Day”
The singer begins a countdown to the reissue of her acclaimed second studio album with an unreleased song produced with Pharrell Williams
In the middle of the 4th of July holiday weekend, Beyoncé decided to pamper her followers, the “BeyHive”, with an unexpected gift. The winner of 35 Grammy Awards broke a two-year musical silence by releasing “Morning Dew (Donk),” the first preview of what will be the 20th anniversary reissue of her iconic second solo studio album, “B’Day.”
The date chosen for the premiere is no coincidence. According to the official statement from her firm Parkwood Entertainment, the launch marks the exact beginning of a 60-day countdown to September 4, 2026, the day on which the artist will celebrate her 45th birthday and on which this new special edition of two decades of the album will be published.
“Morning Dew (Donk)” has a top-notch production and songwriting team, having been written by Beyoncé herself along with Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon.
The production was carried out by the singer and Williams. Although the song is presented within the “B'Day” celebration campaign, it is believed that the song has a long history in the star's archives, having been the subject of speculation and even partial leaks by fans over the last decade.
The single was accompanied by a lyrical video that rescues audiovisual material recorded 20 years ago by photographer and director Cliff Watts, a frequent collaborator of the artist who was also in charge of portraying her for her memorable and historic cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition in 2007.
Originally released in September 2006, “B’Day” became Beyoncé’s second consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, recording more than 540,000 copies sold in its first week.
