Cruz Azul with doubts about Carlos Rotondi and Mateusz Bogusz vs. Chivas
Mateusz Bogusz and Carlos Rotondi could start against Chivas at the start of the playoffs instead of Luka Romero and Omar Campos
Polish midfielder Mateusz Bogusz and Argentine midfielder Carlos Rotondi are likely to start the playoffs in place of Luka Romero and Omar Campos, if Cruz Azul's Argentine coach, Nicolas Larcamon, decides to use them in the first leg of the playoffs against Chivas Guadalajara.
The doubts stem from the physical and footballing condition of both players, although they were used in Wednesday's tactical training session before traveling to Guadalajara, as the Cementeros prepare to strike first in the Mexican league's final stage.
Larcamon fielded the following starting eleven: Andres Gudino in goal; Jorge Sanchez, Gonzalo Piovi, Willer Ditta, Jesus Orozco Chiquete, and either Carlos Rotondi or Omar Campos in defense; Erik Lira, Carlos Rodriguez, Luka Romero or Mateusz Bogusz, and Jose Paradela in midfield, and Gabriel Fernandez in attack. Other options for Cruz Azul include Uruguayan Angel Sepulveda, Ignacio Rivero, Jeremy Marquez, Brayan Gamboa, and Raymundo Rubio, while Argentine Lorenzo Faravelli is unavailable due to a one-match suspension for his red card in the last game against Pumas. Chivas eliminated Cruz Azul in their last playoff encounter. The last playoff meeting between the two teams was 19 years ago, when Chivas eliminated Cruz Azul in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Apertura tournament with a 4-2 aggregate score. In the first leg, Guadalajara won 2-0 with goals from Omar Bravo and Adolfo Bautista. In the second leg, they drew 2-2 with goals from Uruguayan Richard Nunez and Miguel Sabah for Cruz Azul, while Ramon Morales scored for Chivas. Before that game, in the Clausura 2003 tournament playoffs,Chivas incredibly eliminated Cruz Azul after the Cementeros won the first leg 4-1, and the Tapatios recovered with the same score to knock them out of the playoffs. In the quarterfinals of the 1999 Verano tournament, Cruz Azul eliminated Chivas with an aggregate score of 4-3. In the first leg, La Maquina Celeste won 2-1 with goals from Juan Reynoso and Francisco Palencia, while Jesus "Cabrito" Arellano scored for Guadalajara. In the second leg, they drew 2-2 with goals for the Cementeros from Argentinian Hector Adomaitis and Peruvian Juan Reynoso. Chivas responded through Luis Garcia with two goals, eliminating El Rebano Sagrado in the first playoffs held in the history of short tournaments.
