César Montes reveals that he has had offers from Liga MX
The Mexican defender acknowledged that he has had offers from big clubs in Mexico. Montes preferred to stay in Europe
César Montes will be one of the references in the defense of the Mexican team. The Lokomotiv Moscow footballer is one of the most experienced players in the Mexican last line. Before arriving at the 2026 World Cup, Montes acknowledged that he had offers to return to Mexico. The “Puppy” preferred to stay in Europe.
Since January 2023, César Montes has been in European football. The Mexican defender has defended the shirts of RCD Espanyol, UD Almería and now Lokomotiv Moscow. But the “Puppy” has had some proposals to return to Liga MX. César Montes himself assured that they have been offers from big clubs in the Mexican tournament.
"I had different offers, very tempting for me and my family to be able to return to Mexico. The teams that have called me this couple of years from Mexico are big teams, teams that invest and that are always fighting for titles," said the 29-year-old defender.
Despite having this pair of offers on his hands, César Montes preferred to stay in European football. The Mexican footballer admitted that it was tempting to return to Mexico, but until now he remains at Lokomotiv Moscow. The 2026 World Cup could have influenced this decision.
"But look at us, we are still here. We continue with this adventure to continue growing (...) For me it was very tempting to say yes and I would be very comfortable in Mexico," he added.
César Montes in Europe
César Montes' time in European football had very shaky beginnings. The Mexican defender was relegated from his first two clubs in Spain's first division. The “Cachorro” could not maintain the category with RCD Espanyol and UD Almería. Between both processes he played 45 games.
Now at Lokomotiv Moscow he seems to have found stability. César Montes arrived at the Russian team in September 2024. The Mexican defender has already accumulated 49 games with the club in which he has been able to score 6 goals and grant 2 assists (high numbers for a center back). Montes has a current contract with the club until June 2029. The market value of the “Puppy” is around $8 million dollars.
