Donovan Carrillo equaled his Beijing 2022 performance in the figure skating final at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, finishing in 22nd place
Mexican Donovan Carrillo completed a historic second participation in the Winter Olympics this Friday with an outstanding performance in the men's figure skating final in Milan-Cortina 2026, where he finished in 22nd place with a total of 219.06 points, his best mark of the season.
To the rhythm of the music of the legendary Elvis Presley, the Mexican skater moved with confidence and poise, trying to offer the best of his repertoire, but he could not surpass the 22nd place he obtained four years ago in Beijing 2022, where he obtained a total of 218.13 points.
Carrillo enlivened his routine to the rhythm of the iconic Elvis Presley's music, where the athlete from the city of Guadalajara appeared wearing an elegant black suit for his turn, which was the second on the ice at the Milano Skating Arena, where he moved with ease to the rhythm of songs like My Way (a melody suggested by his maternal grandmother).
As well as Trouble, Jailhouse Rock and A Little Less Conversation, where he delighted those present with his unique charisma and with Well-executed routines, including two quadruple jumps, thrilled the spectators gathered to watch the best of this discipline that so captivates fans of the Winter Games. At the end of his performance, Carrillo received the approval of the attendees, being cheered, especially after the Mexican skater obtained a total score of 219.06 points, which included the sum of the short and free programs, where the Mexican obtained 143.50 points. Donovan Carrillo also qualified for the final after placing 23rd in the short program, with 75.56 points, a remarkable achievement after participating for the second consecutive time in an Olympic final, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in figure skating in Mexico and Latin America. In this event, the gold medal went to Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov (291.58).while the Japanese Kagiyama Yuma (280.06) and Sato Shun (274.90) took silver and bronze respectively.
One of the biggest surprises was the elimination of American Ilia Malinin, who seemed to be the favorite to win this event, but he missed the podium with a total of 264.49 points, proving that even the best hunter can miss the hare.
The Mexican athlete surprised everyone by kissing the ice of the rink, bidding farewell with a very emotional image for the fans who showed him respect and admired his professionalism and tenacity to excel in a sport that is not very popular in Mexico.
Something magical for Carrillo
