Efraín Juárez is the leader of the UNAM Pumas bench. After a shaky start, Juárez and the university team are in the final of the 2026 Clausura of the MX League. Reports link Juárez with another club, but the Mexican has other intentions.

Recent reports have linked Efraín Juárez with some clubs in Europe. The Mexican strategist would have several offers on his hands. Juárez himself spoke about it and confirmed the initial reports.

“It depends a lot on the project (staying in Pumas), but I can tell you that today there are approaches from MLS teams, teams in Europe and teams in the league itself that have been interested in my services,” said Efraín Juárez in a statement released by Récord.

But Efraín Juárez has other objectives in his coaching career. The former Mexican soccer player assured that his dream is to remain on the UNAM Pumas bench for several years.

"I want to stay in this club for 20 years. I have the hope, it's my dream, it's my club. I want to be the Ferguson of the Pumas," added the coach.

The coach Efraín Juárez refers to is the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. This respected coach took over the reins of Manchester United in 1986. Ferguson remained in charge of the English team for 26 years. After his retirement in 2013, Ferguson remained involved with the team as a global ambassador.

Criticism of the Pumas leadership

Not everything is rosy in the process of Efraín Juárez in the UNAM Pumas. The Mexican strategist made a public complaint to the leaders for keeping him intrigued about his contract renewal. Juárez does not agree with this uncertainty.

"What I don't understand is many times the ways in which, for example, today people from the club haven't approached my representative to analyze a possible renewal. That's what gets me off the topic a little, because saying: 'Maybe I don't deserve it yet,'" he explained.
