Efraín Juárez has had a very good season on the UNAM Pumas bench. The Mexican strategist is on the verge of lifting his first trophy in Liga MX. But his continuity at the club is not assured. Juárez would have tempting offers from Europe.
The UNAM Pumas will face the Clausura 2026 final against Cruz Azul. The first leg will be this Thursday, May 21 at the Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium. The return duel will take place on Sunday, May 24 at the Universitario Stadium.
Whatever happens, Efraín Juárez's future in the UNAM Pumas is uncertain. After having directed more than 50 games with the Auriazules, Juárez has a chance of lifting his first trophy at the club, as a coach. But this would not “lock” him into office.
“The Mexican strategist has not signed his continuity and, even if he is champion, the options of staying look distant for the moment,” reported from the Record portal.
The same report indicates that the unknown about Juárez's continuity is due to the existence of a couple of offers to direct in Europe. An adventure through the Old Continent fills the young Mexican coach with enthusiasm.
"There is a compelling reason: the helmsman's representative has a couple of offers from teams in Europe, and the illusion of directing in the Old Continent by the so-called 'Efratósteles' is still very latent," the information adds.
Efraín Juárez has already been part of a couple of processes in European football. The Mexican strategist was technical assistant to Ronny Deila at Standard de Liege in Belgium. Juárez was also part of the Club Brujas coaching staff. But the Aztec coach has not yet fully assumed command of a project on the Old Continent.

Efraín Juárez arrived at the UNAM Pumas in March 2025. The Mexican strategist assumed the reins of the Auriazul team after a successful, but controversial time at Atlético Nacional.
So far, Juárez has coached 58 games with the Pumas. The coach born in Mexico City maintains a balance of 24 wins, 18 draws and 16 losses. His best season is this Clausura 2026. Juárez is close to winning his third title as head coach.
