Gervonta Davis against the ropes: Faces new controversy to fight again
Gervonta Davis' last official appearance occurred in March 2025 and since that moment his problems with the law have not allowed his return
Gervonta Davis's sporting situation is going through a period of high uncertainty that puts his permanence as monarch of the World Boxing Association (WBA) at risk.
The boxer's problems outside the ring make planning his return difficult and threaten to strip him of his recognition in the lightweight division.

Gervonta Davis' last official appearance occurred in March 2025, when he retained the crown after registering a tie against Lamont Roach Jr.
The promotion later canceled a scheduled exhibition bout against content creator Jake Paul due to allegations of gender violence that affected the Baltimore fighter's schedule.
A mandate on pause due to legal obstacles
Given the lack of activity of the athlete, the regulatory body decided last January to name him “champion in recess” and evaluated ordering a fight for the vacant title between Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi.
However, given the reports of a possible return of the Baltimore corner, the WBA determined to reactivate the mandatory negotiations against Schofield.
This dialogue process is currently paralyzed due to the legal situation of the 135-pound monarch. In an exclusive interview given to the specialized portal Mill City Boxing, Schofield's father and trainer explained that the legal representatives of the counterparty do not have the ability to move forward with the contracts at this time.
"We can't do anything until the WBA decides. We are supposed to be negotiating with Tank's people for another 20 days, but according to the lawyers, they can't negotiate right now. So we are in limbo for 20 more days while that mandate is resolved. Tank's people have to face us within 20 days," declared the boxer's trainer.
The calendar limit and the future of the belt
The inactivity of Gervonta Davis forces the sanctioning body to establish fixed deadlines to resolve the status of the category. The official assigned negotiation period will end this June 22, a date that will mark the beginning of new administrative measures by the board if contract signatures are not recorded.
In the event that the champion's team fails to unblock the situation by the deadline, the WBA could order an open auction for the purse or declare the title vacant permanently. The resolution will depend on the physical and legal availability of the boxer to enter the ring to expose his world title during the summer.
For his part, challenger Floyd Schofield remains waiting to compete for the absolute crown of the lightweight division.
At 23 years old, the American boxer has an undefeated record of 19 victories and seeks to realize this opportunity after the frustrated fight against Shakur Stevenson, which was canceled due to health problems of the challenger.
