That preference is reflected in the latest global sales data published in June. Contrary to what many might imagine, the best-selling vehicle on the planet so far in 2026 is not a Tesla nor is it a fully electric model.
The main protagonist is the Toyota RAV4, an SUV that continues to accumulate commercial successes and has become the world reference within its category.
A leader who stands firm
According to the figures known so far, the RAV4 concentrates 2.5% of the global share within the SUV market. This share allows it to be ahead of the Tesla Model Y, which reaches 2.4%, and also the Honda CR-V, which registers 1.8%.
The advantage may seem small, but it demonstrates the strength of a formula that continues to work in numerous markets around the world.
The hybrid bet continues to convince
One of the key factors behind the RAV4's success is its conventional hybrid powertrain. Many users value the possibility of reducing fuel consumption without changing their driving habits or depending on charging points.
Added to this is an autonomy close to 800 kilometers, a figure that continues to be very attractive for those who make long journeys or seek maximum versatility on a daily basis.
SUVs dominate the market
The Toyota's success also reflects a broader trend. SUVs continue to be the favorites of millions of drivers thanks to their combination of space, comfort and ability to adapt to different uses.
Currently, this type of vehicle represents about 45% of all registrations worldwide.
The data confirms that consumers continue to prioritize multifunctional models capable of responding to both family needs and daily trips.
