Nacho Ambriz bets on Raúl Jiménez and “Hormiga” González as the forwards for the World Cup
The former World Cup winner in the United States in 1994 had no doubts in betting on the Premier League Fulham striker and the Chivas rookie sensation.
Ignacio Ambriz, champion as a player and as a coach of the Liga MX, as well as a World Cup winner in 1994, assured that Mexico's forwards for the World Cup must be Raúl Jiménez for his experience and Armando “Hormiga” González for his youth and the great moment he is going through.
The above was handled by the multi-time champion with Necaxa in the “Tiempo Extra” program of the newspaper La Opinión, where he ruled out national coach Javier Aguirre calling up four forwards, simply because he has never done so.
"Four forwards don't really come into my head because Javier normally doesn't play with two forwards, right? That's where something doesn't add up. So, of the two best there are, I can tell you that the son of Armandito González, the famous "Ant."
"He has had an impressive tournament, he was the scorer of his team. The truth is, with a hunger, with a desire to do things well; then it is very true that it is a World Cup, but I would lean towards him and Raúl Jiménez, because he has a lot of experience, he will know how to withstand this pressure that suddenly there is from those of us who are outside. For me, they would be the two who should go to the World Cup," he explained.
Ambriz added that: "One with a lot of experience, another with youth and who wants to take on the football world with that desire he has; so I think those should be the two forwards for the World Cup."
The goalkeeper issue
Regarding the issue of goalkeepers, Ambriz said that Guillermo Ochoa deserves all the recognition, but added that it should have been time for the young people, to give the opportunity to the new goalkeepers who may be in the Mexico team in the future.
“It is true that I have to give a round of applause to Ochoa for the great career he has, but if we really want to think about something different for tomorrow, it is to give the opportunity to the young people, the ones who are here today, the one from Acevedo, the boy from Chivas, (I don't know his name), 'Tala' Rangel.
"Yes, well, there are three of them. Javier always likes to bring someone with experience, right? He has always liked it. I had to participate with him in a World Cup and he brought someone with experience, who in the end is the one who plays.
"In this case, when I went with him, it wasn't, Campos didn't play; because he was the third goalkeeper. But I think that in one way or another, in this time when all the teams are suddenly looking for a replacement, it would be important to see one of the youngsters," concluded the experienced coach.
