The NFL officially announced its 2026 International Games schedule and confirmed the league's long-awaited return to Mexico City, where The San Francisco 49ers will face the Minnesota Vikings in week 11 of the season on November 22 at the Azteca Stadium.

The game will mark the NFL's return to Mexican territory for the first time since 2022 and will be the sixth official regular season meeting played in Mexico since 2005, consolidating the country as one of the most important markets for American football outside the United States.

NFL returns to Mexico with a high impact duel

The clash between 49ers and Vikings will close the international series of the 2026 season and promises to attract thousands of fans in the Mexican capital, especially due to the enormous popularity of both franchises in the country.

The NFL highlighted that this commitment will be part of an unprecedented international season, with nine games spread over four continents, seven countries and eight different stadiums.

The Azteca Stadium will receive the NFL

The Mexico City property, previously known as Azteca Stadium, will become home for professional American football after several years of absence.

The last time the NFL held an official game in Mexico was in 2022, when the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Arizona Cardinals before a fan that responded with a spectacular inning.

Now, the Californian franchise will return to the country to measure against the Minnesota Vikings who also have a solid base of Mexican fans.

The rest of the NFL international games

The 2026 NFL international season will start in Week 1 with the duel between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, on September 11

In Week 5, the Washington Commanders will play the Indianapolis Colts in London, England, on October 4, Wed. While in Week 6 the Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, also in London, on October 11th.

For Week 7, the Houston Texans will collide the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 18, and in On Week 8 the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the New Orleans Saints in Paris, France, on October 25th.

Later, in Week 10, the Atlanta Falcons will play the Cincinnati Bengals in Madrid, Spain, on November 8; in Week 11 the Detroit Lions will take on the New Englan d Patriots in Munich, Germany, on November 15; and finally, in Week 12, the Minnesota Vikings will face the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City, on November 22.
