Babaseyi Boluwatife, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command (Nigeria), confirmed that Anthony Joshua is doing well after the tragic car accident that left two people dead.
In statements to CNN, Boluwatife announced the health status of Joshua, who was rescued of the vehicle by civilians and agents of the Federal Highway Police.
“Anthony Joshua is doing well and responding to treatment,” said the spokesperson for the police in Ogun State where the accident occurred.
Update: In a statement, the governments of Ogun and Lagos reported that the British fighter and the driver are in stable condition and will be monitored medically.
“Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialized facility in Lagos. Doctors have conducted several clinical evaluations and have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency intervention at this time. A comprehensive medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely,” it stated.
Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. According to investigations, excessive speed may have been the cause of the tragic accident. According to the aforementioned media outlet, Joshua—who is on vacation in the African country—was aboard a Lexus Jeep that crashed into a parked truck on the Lagos-Ibidan highway in Makun, Ogun State. “It was a convoy of two vehicles: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was sitting behind the driver, with another person next to him. There was also a passenger sitting next to the driver, making a total of four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. (…) The passenger next to the driver and Joshua died instantly,” said a witness at the scene.
