The goal by Cristhian Stuani in the final minutes of the match played by Girona did not change the destiny of the club carbayón, whose campaign was marked by sports problems and growing institutional tension.
The season began with excitement in Asturias after the promotion achieved by Veljko Paunovic, coach who had returned the team to First Division after 2 4 years outside the elite. However, the project suffered an early turn when the board decided to dismiss him in October, after only eight days.
At that time, the team still did not occupy relegation places. The balance was two wins and six losses. The exit of The coach generated strong criticism among sectors of the fans, especially due to the context in which the decision was made.
The controversy increased when the club announced the return of Luis Carrión, coach who had left good feelings in the 2023/2024 campaign, although his previous departure to Las Palmas had deteriorated part of his relationship with the fans.
A season marked by changes and protests
Carrión's stage ended worsening the sports situation of Oviedo. The coach debuted with a defeat against Espanyol on matchday 9 and since then the team hasn't left the relegation zone.
During his management, the blue team accumulated four draws and five defeats without achieving a single victory. Two months after taking the position, the board decided to dismiss him.
Later Guillermo Almada arrived, incorporated after the payment made to Valladolid when the Pucelano group was tenth in Second Division. With the Uruguayan coach, the team showed competitive improvement and managed to raise its football performance, although the results remained insufficient.
Real Oviedo barely achieved four wins under Almada's command: three in the Carlos Tartiere stadium and one in Balaídos. That reaction wasn't enough to reverse a campaign that ended consummating relegation.
Off the field of play, the relationship between the fans and the Pachuca Group also went through delicate moments. The Mexican conglomerate headed by Jesús Martínez received constant criticism from followers who questioned the institutional management during a large part of the championship.
The annoyance became visible both in the matches and in different demonstrations around the club. The discontent contrasted with e The support that the fans had shown months before, when the team recorded record numbers of subscribers in the Principality of Asturias.
The president Martín Peláez already advanced that there will be structural modifications within the institution. In the coming weeks movements are expected in the administrative area and in the sports management.
Another of the unknowns opened after the relegation is the future of Guillermo Almada, whose continuity for the next campaign in Second Division has not yet been defined by the leadership.
