The president of Cruz Azul does not guarantee the continuity of Joel Huiqui
The Cruz Azul board conditioned Joel Huiqui's continuity for the next tournament as long as they are crowned champions in the Clausura 2026 tournament.
Although the current Cruz Azul coach, Joel Huiqui, was classified as a man of the house, the board headed by engineer Víctor Velázquez did not guarantee continuity to the current coach of the Blue Machine for the next season, unless he is crowned in the current championship.
The president of the cement organization himself stated that Huiqui will only be able to have continuity if he manages to be crowned at the head of the cement team, which has been considered on social networks as a decision out of reality, after the current cement strategist took the bull by the horns when Cruz Azul, under the command of the Argentine Nicolás Larcamón, was on the verge of shipwreck.
"Joel Huiqui, you know that he is from home; when it was decided that he would continue with this tournament, with this project, we knew of his abilities, of course, and we have discussed that he will continue as long as the championship is won," said the leader.
He also added that: "We are going to reinforce, of course, with the entire coaching staff as is done in any institution, as is done in any process. We made changes that were criticized at the time, because it is okay to criticize."
"But I believe that with work and above all with knowledge of the people we have in the institution, that Joel Huiqui, apart from having the Cruz Azul jersey tattooed, has been going through a learning process since the Under 21, with the latest technicians who have passed, not to mention names, and that in the end that has given him the baggage and knowledge to take this final with all the seriousness and the methodology that we have followed for months."
Cruz Azul apparently did not take into account the way they were criticized when they decided to remove the Uruguayan Vicente Sánchez from his position after the strategist took the place of the Argentine Martín Anselmi to lead the team to a quarterfinal against América and the Concachampions title by beating the Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS.
Regarding the duel against Pumas in the grand final, he stated that: “It is special because he is one of the greats and, well, we are focused on our work and we hope to be champions and lift the tenth.”
Joel Huiqui did not know about the condition, but he did not make drama
Joel Huiqui, upon being informed of the statements of the celestial high command, did not create drama and preferred to give a positive vision to the fact of directing the cement team: "Immense happiness, my dream has always been to direct the team of my loves in a long process."
"Obviously it will depend on many things. I have spoken with him, he has opened the doors of his office to me, I am delighted to take charge of the team in the next tournament, but right now the important thing is to win the title of champion; then we will see."
