They assure that FIFA will not allow Liga MX to return to the Copa Libertadores
Because FIFA wants to continue promoting its Club World Cup, the option for Mexican teams to return to the Copa Libertadores was ruled out.
The option of Mexican teams returning to compete in the Copa Libertadores was practically ruled out, after the version was leaked that the authorities of FIFA and Concacaf are working in favor of consolidating the second edition of the Club World Cup on North American soil.
According to information generated by TV Azteca commentator, David Medrano, the main argument that will prevent the return of Mexican teams in this prestigious Conmebol competition is based on the conflict of interest that could arise between Concacaf and this organization, as well as projecting the Club World Cup that was so successful in its first edition to another level.
The version of a possible return of the Mexican teams arose after the Televisa/Univisión network bought the rights to the South American tournaments; The version immediately began to circulate that the Liga MX teams would have the door open to compete in this competition.
Hours later it was clarified that, due to Concacaf regulation issues, the Mexican teams would have to prioritize the competitions of this organization, such as the Leagues Cup and the tournament of champions and runners-up of the Concacaf, which would practically leave no space on the calendar to face the Libertadores, beyond the fact that the Liga MX teams would manage to face this tournament that gave so many sporting benefits to the Aztec elevences.
On this topic, Medrano stated that: "The possibility of Mexican, American, Costa Rican or Concacaf clubs participating in the Copa Libertadores is completely closed. "Do you remember that a few weeks ago the rumor was handled? Zero, zero, zero. “FIFA is very clear with Concacaf”
"You can't. The only scenario for them to be able to face official matches between clubs from different confederations is the Club World Cup, which is from FIFA," Medrano said in his YouTube podcast.
The reasons for the refusal
Among the arguments that were handled, the presence of international figures in Major League Soccer (MLS) stood out, such as the case of Lionel Messi with Inter Miami, which made one think about the attractiveness of confrontations with Conmebol teams.
"They have given a forceful explanation to Concacaf, because they thought that with Messi's front, they thought that by knocking on the door they were going to give it to them, but FIFA tells them: ''Look, if I open the door for you to participate in Libertadores, I am automatically opening the door and the Arabs, for a while now, have been waiting for it to open to buy a place in the Champions League.' There are no possibilities, for now, for the Mexican teams to participate in the Copa Libertadores, nor in the United States."
It is worth mentioning that in Mexico and the United States they have chosen to strengthen their alliances with competitions such as Leagues Cup, All Star Game or even the Concachampions, where it is increasingly common to see teams from both countries competing in important events.
