UEFA does not give Barcelona permission to play the Champions League at the Camp Nou
The FC Barcelona stadium is still not ready to open the curtain on the Champions League
FC Barcelona confirmed this Friday that the October 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), corresponding to the second day of the league phase of the 2025-26 Champions League, will be played at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium and not at the Spotify Camp Nou, as it does not yet have the necessary administrative permits to reopen its stadium.
Barca will continue at Montjuic
The match against the reigning European champions will take place at the Montjuic stadium, with a capacity of around 50,000 spectators, which already hosted the Barca club's matches during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.
UEFA had published on its official website on Thursday that the match would be played at the Lluis Companys, and the club ratified it shortly after in a statement.
"FC Barcelona continues to work intensively to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Spotify Camp Nou in the near future," the entity said.
A few weeks ago, the club reached an agreement with Barcelona City Council to guarantee the use of the Montjuic stadium until February 2026 in case the Camp Nou is not ready.
However, the Lluis Companys was not available for the first two LaLiga home matches, due to a Post Malone concert on September 12, which forced Barca to play Valencia at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, with just 6,000 seats. That same stadium will also host this Sunday's match against Getafe.
Doubts for Barcelona-Real Sociedad in LaLiga
Barcelona has yet to confirm the location of its September 28 match against Real Sociedad, corresponding to Matchday 7 of LaLiga, which will be played.
The problem is that the match coincides with the Piromusical of the Fiestas de la Merce, which will be held on Avenida Maria Cristina, very close to the Lluis Companys stadium, which could complicate the organization of the match. The Guardia Urbana has already recommended bringing forward the match time for security reasons.
