Victor Wembanyama seals the Spurs' path for Game 5 of the NBA Finals
"Surrender or become stronger," those are the ways of San Antonio, according to Wembanyama. The Spurs have just lost to the Knicks in a historic comeback
The French Victor Wembanyama, star of the San Antonio Spurs, assured this Wednesday that the defeat suffered at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks after wasting a 29-point lead, that his team has two options: give up or become "stronger."
"Right now I can't fully explain it, I don't know. I think it's just a matter of execution, of some competitive anxiety. Clearly we weren't the hungriest team in the second half," Wembanyama said at a press conference after the Garden's 106-107 victory, which gave the Knicks a 3-1 lead in the Finals.
"I think it's going to go down one of two paths. One of two paths: a bad one and a good one. The bad one would be to give up. The good one would be to make us stronger with this, to be more united. And I know that the latter is what we are going to do," he reflected.
The Spurs blew a 29-point lead at Madison Square Garden and lost 107-106 against the New York Knicks who next Saturday, in the fifth game, will be able to get their hands on their first ring since 1973.
Wembanyama finished the game with 24 points and 13 rebounds, although he did not go above 2 of 9 shooting in the fourth quarter.
"We have already shown that we can overcome these difficulties. Although we have not been in this situation before, I am convinced that we are made for this and that we are going to get something better out of all this. This is going to unite us even more," said Wemby.
