Watford will use uniform inspired by Elton John
The singer celebrates 50 years as president of the team and the players will commemorate it by wearing a special shirt
Watford, a team in the Championship (second division of England), will wear a special kit inspired by the singer Elton John for this weekend's match against Blackburn Rovers.
This kit, which will only be used in this match, will commemorate the fifty years since Elton John, a fan of the club since the age of six, became president of the team.
According to the London-based club, the musician played a key role in the design, which was inspired by the album “Diamonds,” which featured Elton John’s greatest hits from the 1970s.
The back of each shirt reads “How Wonderful Life is While You’re in the World,” a line from the song “Your Song.” The front also features the “Happy Hornet” badge, designed when Elton John became chairman.
Interestingly, fans will be able to purchase this shirt with or without the current sponsor, a betting house.
Elton John served as chairman of the team in the 1970s and 1980s, leading them from the fourth division to the first. One of the stadium’s stands bears the singer’s name.
