Bihar has marked a significant achievement in the field of IT engineering with the successful development of its own supercomputer, named ‘Param Buddha’. This cutting-edge supercomputer, equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities, has been built by the Patna chapter of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). With the launch of ‘Param Buddha’, Bihar has joined the ranks of developed states in India that possess such advanced computing technology, positioning Patna among cities like Pune, Delhi, Kanpur, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, which are known for their technological prowess.

Cost and Unique Features of Param Buddha

‘Param Buddha’ was developed at a cost of approximately ?4.5 crore. Unlike many other supercomputers that rely on Central Processing Units (CPU), ‘Param Buddha’ is powered by a Graphic Processing Unit (GPU). This unique feature allows the supercomputer to perform multiple complex tasks simultaneously with high precision and efficiency. The supercomputer has undergone rigorous testing across various fields, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. ‘Param Buddha’ has already been successfully used in test modes at prestigious institutions like IIT BHU and even by the Indian Army. According to C-DAC, the supercomputer has passed all its tests and is now fully ready to serve a wide range of applications. There has also been a demand to install ‘Param Buddha’ at IIT Patna, and an official launch is expected soon.

Speaking to the media, Aditya Kumar Sinha, Director of C-DAC Patna, emphasized the transformative potential of ‘Param Buddha’ in various sectors. “Param Buddha is Bihar’s first AI-based supercomputer and has proven successful in numerous testing phases,” Sinha said. He highlighted that the supercomputer will greatly simplify research in critical areas such as education, health, policing, and other significant sectors. The AI-driven capabilities of ‘Param Buddha’ will particularly benefit research that involves processing vast amounts of data to derive actionable insights. In agriculture, for example, the supercomputer can be used to study crop diseases and their treatments, while in healthcare, it can help analyze the long-term effects of drugs or the impact of diseases over extended periods.
