A bill that would prohibit the use of social networks by minors 16 years old advances among California's legislators.
Proposal AB1709, introduced by Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), calls for prohibiting social media platforms from allowing users under 16 to create or maintain accounts on their apps.
The bill would also require social networks to implement reasonable measures to prevent users under 16 years of age from accessing or using accounts on their platforms.
