Pakistan's Parliament (National Assembly) has been dissolved three days before the completion of its five-year term. President Arif Alvi late on Wednesday night approved outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recommendation to dissolve the National Assembly. This ended the tenure of the present government and paved the way for the next general elections. Now till the formation of new elected government in Pakistan, the caretaker government will take over the power.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent the recommendation to dissolve Parliament to President Alvi on Wednesday night. President Alvi gave his assent without any delay. Pakistan's President's Office said in a social media post that the President dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of the Prime Minister under Article 58 of the Constitution.

With the dissolution of the lower house, the term of the current government will also end prematurely. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Murtaza Javed Abbasi said in a statement that the elected government had completed its five-year term and that his ministry had sent a brief to the prime minister to dissolve parliament under Article 58 of the Constitution.

On technical grounds, now the time limit for holding elections in Pakistan will increase from two months to three months. In fact, there is a rule in Pakistan that if the National Assembly completes its term, then the Election Commission will have to conduct fresh elections in the country within two months. If the assembly is dissolved without completing its term, then the commission is bound to hold elections within 90 days. That means he gets 30 more days. With the assent of the President, the Parliament was dissolved three days before the end of its term. Now the Election Commission will get 90 days to conduct the elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf of the country's former Prime Minister Imran Khan wants elections in the country as soon as possible while the ruling coalition led by Pakistan Muslim League wants to mold the elections as long as possible. Since President Alvi is close to Imran, the Sharif government suspected that he would not seek the government's proposal to dissolve the National Assembly ahead of time. That's why he did this trick.

With this recommendation of Shahbaz Sharif, the process of formation of caretaker government in Pakistan has also started. Actually, there is a rule in Pakistan that elections are conducted through a neutral government. Therefore, after the end of the five-year term of the National Assembly, a new caretaker government is elected.
