Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Fires Members of Vaccine Advisory Committee
Kennedy to Remove and Replace All 17 Members of CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, Citing Clean
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he will replace all members of the scientific group tasked with advising the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the national vaccination schedule and coverage mandatory.
“A complete sweep is necessary to restore public confidence in vaccine science. The new members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) will prioritize public health and evidence-based medicine. The committee will no longer serve as a seal of approval for the industry’s profit-making agendas,” the official wrote.
According to the controversial Secretary of Health, the decision was to “avoid conflicts of interest” and restore public confidence in immunization.
“Under my direction, the Department of Health and Human Services prioritizes rebuilding public confidence above any pro- or anti-vaccine agenda,” mentions a column by Kennedy himself published in The Wall Street Journal and used by the Secretary of Health to explain his decision.
“The public must know that the recommendations of our health agencies are based on unbiased scientific data. This will ensure that the American people receive the safest vaccines possible,” it details.
CDC vaccine advisers exercise an important influence as they review vaccine data and decide who should get vaccinated and when.
Insurance companies and government programs like Medicaid are required to cover vaccines recommended by this committee.
It is unknown when the new members of the panel will be announced, while the current members will hold their previously planned meeting from June 25 to 27, according to a statement released by the Department of Health.
