Trump says Israel accepted conditions for Gaza ceasefire
Ahead of Netanyahu visit, Trump says Israel agreed to terms for 60-day Gaza ceasefire, urges Hamas to accept deal
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Israel has agreed to terms for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and warned Hamas to accept the deal before conditions worsen.
Trump made the announcement as he prepares to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks at the White House Blanca on Monday. The US leader has increased pressure on the Israeli government and Hamas to negotiate a ceasefire and a hostage settlement to end the war in Gaza.
“My representatives held a long and productive meeting today with the Israelis regarding Gaza. Israel has agreed to the conditions necessary to end the 60-day ceasefire, during which we will work with all parties to end the war,” Trump declared at Truth Social.
“The Qataris and the Egyptians, who have worked hard to achieve peace, will present this final proposal,” he added. “I hope, for the sake of the Middle East, that Hamas will accept this agreement, because it will not get better, but worse.”
Despite the announcement, Trump’s promise that it was his best and final offer could find a skeptical audience within Hamas. Even before the war’s longest cease-fire expired in March, the Republican repeatedly issued ultimatums to Hamas to accept longer pauses in the fighting that would allow for the release of more hostages and the return of more aid to Gaza’s civilian population. Trump reiterated his hope for a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas next week. Asked if it was time to pressure Netanyahu for a cease-fire deal, Trump said the Israeli prime minister was ready to make a deal. “He wants to,” Trump said of Netanyahu in an exchange with reporters during his visit to a new immigration detention center in Florida. “I think we’ll have a deal next week.”
This new warning comes as more than 150 international charities and humanitarian groups called for the dismantling of a controversial Israeli and US-backed system for distributing aid in Gaza due to the chaos and violence against Palestinians foraging there.
