White House ordered Buy two Mustang GT to drive recruitment of agents in ICE
This acquisition responds to the administration’s strategy to strengthen recruitment campaigns for new agents
The White House ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to purchase two Ford Mustang GT sports cars worth more than $120,000 for recruitment purposes.
The order indicated ICE's intention to “acquire, through direct award, two Ford Mustang GT vehicles for recruitment purposes” with a budget of $121,450.
However, what was most surprising was the reason why they chose the Ford sports car, which corresponds to its symbolic value in recruitment: striking design, image of strength, and modern federal service.
This acquisition was requested immediately last Thursday, August 7, 2025, so that the vehicles would be used “in the next two fiscal years for recruitment purposes for the positions of Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance Officers, and Deportation Officers (ERO), as well as Criminal Investigators and Homeland Security Investigators.”
ICE also justified that it was a direct award to a dealer in the state of Maryland, instead of resorting to a public competition, because “the need is so urgent that full competition would cause unacceptable delays and seriously harm the Government’s recruitment initiative.”
The Independent reported that one of the Mustang GTs has already been seen on the streets of Washington DC, where Trump has deployed military personnel on police duty, "with an ICE logo and the slogan 'Defend the Homeland.'"
The purchase order does not indicate the paint color of the two ICE vehicles.
The recently passed tax reform law establishes $30 billion for ICE to recruit 14,000 new agents over the next two years.
