Arrested in Houston for shooting six stray dogs
A man was arrested after allegedly opening fire on six stray dogs at a Houston apartment complex
Houston Police reported that the suspect, Oscar Johnson, was arrested after witnesses identified him as the man who shot six stray dogs on September 10 at The Crossings at Hillcroft apartment complex, in the southwest part of the city.
Neighbors said the animals were friendly and regularly interacted with the community, according to Telemundo.
Two of the dogs were seriously injured and remain under medical treatment at the Houston SPCA, an organization that confirmed that the animals are in the process of recovery.
Charges and judicial situation
Johnson faces two charges of animal cruelty and one for illegal possession of a firearm. During the preliminary hearing, a judge denied him bail, although experts warn that this decision could be modified in the future.
Criminal lawyer Christian Capitaine, consulted by local media, explained that sentences for animal cruelty in Texas can range from 6 to 24 months in prison for each charge.
Authorities urged citizens to report any case of animal abuse to the Houston SPCA hotline: 713-869-7722.
