The Government of Sonora categorically rejected the versions that indicate that Governor Alfonso Durazo is the subject of a criminal investigation by United States authorities, and that his visa to enter that country would have been canceled.

The official position arose after the publication of a report in the Los Angeles Times that stated that Durazo and the governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal, face investigations for alleged links to criminal organizations and that their visas were revoked.

Through a message spread on social networks, the head of the State Social Communication System of Sonora, Paloma Terán, described the information as “completely false” and assured that the state president maintains his immigration documentation in force.

Furthermore, he stated that there is no official notification about an investigation against him by US authorities.

“The governor has a valid visa and has not been notified of any investigation by the United States authorities,” said the official, in accordance with the official position of the state government.

The Sonoran administration also reiterated its rejection of any accusation that lacks verifiable evidence and affirmed that it will continue to act with transparency in the face of public opinion.

Previously, during her morning conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum pointed out that it is up to the governors involved to clarify the situation and expressed dissatisfaction with the public dissemination of information related to possible immigration restrictions.
