Japanese conglomerate SoftBank donates $50 million to Trump library
The millionaire contribution strengthens the relationship between Trump and the powerful Asian technology sector
The Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Group made a donation of $50 million for Donald Trump's future presidential library, one of the largest contributions known so far for the project being built in Miami.
The information released by Politico cites people familiar with the agreement and details that the objective of the contribution is to strengthen initiatives related to the strategic relationship between the United States and Japan.
Trump's presidential library is emerging as one of the most ambitious political and symbolic projects of the former president, who seeks to consolidate his legacy while maintaining influence within the American political and business scene.
SoftBank strengthens its closeness with Trump
The million-dollar donation occurs at a key moment for SoftBank, a company led by Masayoshi Son, considered one of the most influential technology investors in the world.
Son has maintained a close relationship with Trump since his first presidential term and has visited the White House on several occasions. Additionally, SoftBank previously announced a $100 billion investment commitment to U.S. companies during the current Republican administration.
The Japanese group is also among the largest investors in artificial intelligence globally and has stakes in strategic companies related to technology and semiconductors, including investments linked to OpenAI.
According to sources cited by the aforementioned media, the donation seeks to support projects linked to the economic and geopolitical alliance between Washington and Tokyo, particularly in technological and security sectors.
Neither SoftBank nor representatives of the Trump library offered official comment on the contribution.
Trump library takes shape in Miami
In recent weeks, digital images of the complex that will house the presidential library in Miami were released. The renderings show a massive waterfront skyscraper with Trump's last name placed on top of the building.
The project also includes spaces dedicated to some of the most recognizable symbols of Trump's political and business universe, including a golden escalator inspired by Trump Tower and a golden statue of the former president raising his fist.
One of the elements that has generated the most controversy is the future display of the Boeing plane gifted by Qatar to Trump to be used as Air Force One before later being integrated into the presidential library.
The construction of the complex advances while technology companies, media and international corporations increase their rapprochement with Trump, who continues to be a determining figure in US politics and global economic issues.
