Latino creates an application to organize events in Southern California
The platform makes work easier for clients and helps businesses promote their services
Imagine that you are organizing a party or a special event and you don't know where to start: whether to hire a group, rent chairs, try to find a taquero or a food service. Stressing, isn't it? Well now, thanks to the creation of Cristian Moreno, a musician from Hemet, California, you can plan your parties with ease thanks to his new application called Privada.
This app, available for iPhone and Android, allows you to hire and find musical groups, photographers, food services, decoration arrangements and more throughout the United States, and even other countries such as Mexico.
“Right now there are almost 3,000 businesses in the application that offer everything related to organizing a party, small or large,” Moreno said in a talk with La Opinión.
The young man, who is a singer in a group called Los Double M, said that the idea for the application arose, in fact, when they were hired by a family for a party. He said that the person who hired them asked them if they knew taqueros and party organizers, and at that moment the idea of creating a platform to bring together all of these services occurred to him.
"I said: we, Hispanics, like to celebrate, have parties; that's why I feel that the app is a good idea. We celebrate everything, and I said that it would be good if there was one place for everything that is needed for a party," Moreno commented. “And I got to work creating and seeing if it worked.”
The boy says that, although he did attend school for two years, he did not study technology. He currently works as a truck driver and composes corridos in his free time, something he has done for the last 6 years.
He recently started working only part-time as a truck driver to focus on improving his application. In a video that went viral on TikTok he said that he wants his application to become the number one Latin application in downloads. His video has reached more than 400,000 views and has been shared more than 11,000 times.
“I believed in this so much that I sold my car to be able to pay for everything that was needed to create the application,” Moreno said. "There aren't many Hispanics in technology, and I'm not going to tell you it's easy, but if you have an idea, do it. This is not my first idea; many others have failed, but the important thing is that you don't give up and keep trying."
Compared to other groups, such as the white community, which is the most common among mobile app developers at 52%, Latinos make up only 8%. Meeting Moreno's goal is not easy, but it is not impossible either.
“I know that my app is capable of reaching more (people),” he said.
The 28-year-old said the app not only helps people looking for a service, but also musicians and other businesses. The app is like a free promotion for them.
Something that, he assures, party service businesses need today, since they have been one of the groups most impacted in recent years by Covid-19 and, recently, by immigration raids. For example, Orange County businesses lost nearly $59 million in economic output in the eight weeks following the increase in ICE raids, according to a working paper from the University of California, Irvine.
“Musicians and other businesses I've met love it because it makes everything easier for them and the customer,” Moreno said. “While many already have clients, the app helps them expand to others outside their circle.”
“It's a place to find everything; it's like Yelp, but for Latin parties,” he added.
Your Private application is free for any business that wants to register. From groups, taqueros, makeup artists, stylists, chair rentals and decorations, everything you can imagine needed for a party is available in their application.
Each person can include how to contact them, their social media profiles, and even videos showcasing their services. Moreno says that in the future he would like to offer memberships that include more exclusive promotional packages, but for now everything is free to appear in his catalog.
“There will always be a free way to participate,” Moreno said. “Maybe in a year or two I would like to get together with another company to help me take it to the next level, but for now I want to grow it as is.”
“And I am very grateful to all my followers and to the people who have supported me and who believe in the app, especially the businesses and the musicians,” he said.
