Mexican Army prepares elite elements against terrorism
Elements of the Mexican Army's Special Forces Corps are training in counterterrorism operations ahead of the 2026 World Cup
While authorities in Mexico do not recognize acts of terrorism in the country, an elite group of the Army, Also known as the “Green Berets,” they undergo complex training, where reaction speed, operational intelligence, and tactical coordination are vital, through the Special Forces Corps Counterterrorism Operations Course. There, personnel develop skills and abilities in intervention techniques under hypothetical hostage rescue scenarios, neutralization of high-risk targets with surgical precision, as well as teamwork for rapid, discreet, and highly coordinated access to buildings. In other words, although terrorist acts are not identified in Mexico, military personnel are trained as a matter of protocol to meet international standards in the prevention, neutralization, and response to this type of threat and transnational organized crime. This training is particularly relevant given the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which Mexico, the United States, and Canada will host. It is estimated that Mexico will receive around 5.5 million tourists during the event, with approximately 800,000 fans in the stadiums, making security a key concern. focus of attention.

Elite Identity
According to information released to La Opinion, these military activities take place over a period of 3 months at the Special Forces Training Center located at Military Camp 37-B Temamatla, State of Mexico.
The course is divided into three phases: Technical, Tactics, Planning, and Operations, where 13 personnel are currently participating—two from Panama, one from Colombia, and one from Nicaragua—further solidify the internationalization of Mexican military activities. According to military commanders,The choice of venue and participating personnel is not accidental, as the Special Forces emerged in 1986, prior to that year's World Cup, and since then, these troops have perfected their techniques, equipment, and weaponry, consolidating themselves as an elite unit. As part of this training, La Opinion visited the so-called "intervention house," where the soldiers conducted exercises with explosives and live firearms, allowing them to develop confidence and coordination in high-pressure situations. These exercises strengthen their response capacity in missions such as hostage rescue, capture of priority targets, and protection against hypothetical threats during the tournament. It is worth noting that, according to information released by ESPN, Mexico was the only country, one of the organizers for the 2026 World Cup, which committed to providing government guarantees to FIFA.
