Trump announces three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine
President Trump affirmed that the ceasefire also contemplates the exchange of 1,000 prisoners
US President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine that will begin on Saturday May 9 and will conclude on Monday May 11, within the commemorations of Victory Day in Russia.
The announcement was made through the social network Truth Social, where it reported that the measure includes the suspension of all military activity and an exchange of 1,000 prisoners for each country.
Trump assured that the proposal was accepted by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Victory Day
The ceasefire coincides with May 9, the date on which Russia celebrates Victory Day, and on which the role of Ukraine during the Second World War is also recognized.
The American president noted that the initiative seeks to open the way towards the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which is considered the most serious in Europe since the Second World War.
Likewise, he indicated that the negotiations to achieve a definitive solution are in development.
“Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and difficult war,” Trump stressed.
