According to data released by the government on Monday, the country's exports increased by one percent to $38.45 billion in December 2023. However, in December last year, imports had declined by 4.85 percent to $58.25 billion. During April to December of the current financial year, exports declined by 5.7 percent to $317.12 billion. At the same time, imports declined by 7.93 percent to $505.15 billion. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said that despite the global slowdown, we are in positive territory.

Adani Group on Monday said it will offer new 350-square-foot flats to eligible residents of Mumbai's Dharavi slum. Adani Group, which is redeveloping the Dharavi slums in collaboration with the Maharashtra government, claimed this is "17 per cent more" than the size of flats offered as part of slum redevelopment projects. Adani said in a statement that the new flats will have a kitchen and toilet. Earlier, residents of informal settlements were given 269 square feet houses. From 2018, the state government started giving them houses of 315-322 square feet.

The redevelopment area will also have community halls, recreational areas, public gardens, dispensaries and daycare centers for children.

It has been decided to consider January, 2000 as the cut-off date for determining eligible residents. “Ineligible residents” will be provided housing under the proposed affordable rental housing policy, as per the norms of the state government.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is a special purpose vehicle formed as a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Government of Maharashtra. The company had won the contract to reconstruct the largest slum clusters in Asia in November 2022.
