Sprout Organics has expanded the recall of its sweet potato, apple, and spinach bags after potentially elevated lead levels were identified. This recall was originally announced on September 16 and affects new batches of 3.5-ounce bags.
These bags were sold online, at Walgreens, and at independent retailers in 28 states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, CBS News reported.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned that long-term exposure to lead can affect child development and cause long-term health problems. Even low levels of exposure can reportedly contribute to increased blood lead levels.
