FDA Announces Voluntary Recall of Chocolate Bars Due to Salmonella Contamination
The recall concerns the Spring & Mulberry brand chocolate bars after salmonella contamination in the dates used in their preparation
The withdrawal of the product began on last Friday May 8 , after an investigation by the health agency when it was proven that the dates used in making the chocolate tables tested positive for contamination.
Through a statement on its website, the manufacturer highlighted that “the exhaustive investigation into the root cause has been identified in a single lot of dates used in the company's chocolate production as the most likely source of contamination,” he stated.
According to the FDA, eating foods contaminated with salmonella can cause serious infections; symptoms of poisoning include diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. s, stomach cramps, which can sometimes be fatal in children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weak immune systems.
In this sense, both the manufacturer and the FDA recommend consumers to throw the product or return it to the store where they purchased it for their respective refund.
