The compact SUV segment has become one of the most competitive in the market, and Kia has managed to stand out thanks to the Seltos, a model that quickly found its niche among young buyers and families looking for an affordable, modern, and efficient vehicle. However, after six years without a major redesign, the South Korean brand decided to completely update it and pave the way for its new generation.

Just days before its official unveiling, Kia decided to share a visual preview of the upcoming Seltos.

This first glimpse has generated excitement, especially since the model has always been positioned as one of the most relevant entry-level options within the company's SUV lineup.

A preview that marks a new direction

The world premiere of the redesigned Seltos is scheduled for December 10, but Kia wanted to increase anticipation by showing teaser images that reveal key elements of the exterior design.

Although the photographs don't show the complete vehicle, they do allow us to identify a clear evolution in its lines, especially in areas such as the roof, the sides, and the treatment of its lights.

First impressions show that Kia maintains certain characteristic features of the current model, but adopts an aesthetic more aligned with the visual language of its more modern vehicles. This allows the Seltos to project a more mature identity without losing the youthful character that has made it popular.

Design inspired by the “Opposites United” philosophy

One of the highlights of the new model is its reinterpretation of the “Opposites United” design concept, which Kia has applied to most of its recent releases. Under this philosophy,The new Seltos combines clean surfaces with robust SUV details, along with slightly more defined proportions and a more technological feel. The front incorporates Star Map daytime running lights, a signature lighting design that has become a hallmark of the brand. All of this suggests that, while it remains the brand's most affordable SUV, Kia wants it to look modern and competitive against rivals like the Chevrolet Trax and Mazda CX-30.

Expanded Customization Options

Kia also announced that this new generation will include a wider range of exterior colors and trims. The X-Line and GT-Line versions will also return, each with distinctive elements that allow buyers to choose a more understated or sportier style.

The brand hopes these options will enhance the Seltos' appeal in various markets, taking advantage of the fact that many buyers value the ability to personalize their vehicle—something that has also been a trend in other compact segments.

Powertrains: A Focus on Electrification

Although Kia has not yet revealed technical details about the engines, it did confirm that the new Seltos will include a hybrid system. Currently, the model is offered with two engine options: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 146 horsepower and a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 190 horsepower.

Everything indicates that at least one of these configurations could be integrated with a complementary electric system to improve efficiency and performance.

With the global increase in environmental regulations, it makes sense for Kia to take this step to keep the Seltos competitive and align it with the electrification strategy the brand has been pursuing in recent years.
