Popular Mexican food restaurant announces the closure of all its locations in the US.
The restaurant chain founded by New Yorkers Steven Marks and Robert Hazan had been in the US market for six years.
Recently, through a statement, the famous restaurant chain specializing in Mexican food Guzman y Gomez Mexican Kitchen announced the closure of all its locations in the United States.
The restaurant popular for offering fast food such as tacos, nachos and quesadillas, among others, on its menu, indicated on its website that “after six years of burritos and big dreams in the Chicago metropolitan area, we have made the difficult decision to close our restaurants in the United States.”
The chain originally from Australia, founded by New Yorkers Steven Marks and Robert Hazan, in recent years had become a strong rival to Chipotle, conquering American diners with fresh and 100% clean and organic ingredients.
The company until now had eight restaurants in the United States and, although during its arrival in the US market in 2020 its intention was to expand throughout the country, this closure represents a serious setback to its plans.
In the statement on their platform they also thank their team: "Their passion and dedication created something special. If you ever visit Australia, Singapore or Japan, come see us; we will have your favorite dishes waiting for you. Thank you, Chicagoland!"
For his part, Steven Marks commented on the closure, stating that "having spent the last three months in the United States, I realized that this was going to require much more time and capital than we had anticipated. And in evaluating the trajectory of the current network, the board of directors and I have concluded that the business is unlikely to offer a return that justifies the continued investment of shareholders' capital," he said.
The current closure of Guzman y Gomez Mexican Kitchen comes at a time when many restaurants have begun to reduce their costs by closing hundreds of locations due to declining sales due to changing consumer habits.
