Homicide-suicide in Houston: Man kills his wife and son and then takes his own life
An apparent homicide-suicide shocked the Katy community on Saturday. They are investigating possible mental health issues as a trigger for the incident.
A man killed his wife and 7-year-old son in a homicide-suicide at an apartment complex in Katy, Houston, Texas.
At 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call at an apartment complex apartment located in the 20100 block of Park Row Boulevard in Katy.
Inside the apartment, three people were found shot, including a 43-year-old woman, who was dead at the scene; and a 7-year-old boy was found dead in his bed.
The husband, the alleged perpetrator of the crime, was transported by helicopter to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead after an apparent suicide by firearm.
The gun used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
Also inside the apartment were the couple's 19-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, who were in another room during the shooting. Both were unharmed.
Suspect struggled with mental health issues and unemployment
Relatives of the man told authorities that he had been struggling with mental health issues and depression, and was possibly receiving treatment. They also noted that he was unemployed at the time of the crime. The Harris County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident to determine what motivated this violent act. The case is being treated as a homicide-suicide.
