At least six people are injured in an armed attack in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood
Police reported that the attacker opened fire on a group of people gathered outdoors and remains at large.
At least six people were injured, including two who remain in critical condition, during a shooting early Sunday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood in northwest Chicago, Illinois, authorities reported.
The Chicago Police Department said the attack occurred around 2:09 a.m., when a still-unidentified individual opened fire on a group of people who were gathered outdoors.
“While they were outside, an unidentified assailant fired a firearm, hitting multiple victims,” police said in a statement reported by ABC.
The attacker is still at large
Authorities are investigating the case as a suspected drive-by shooting and continue to search for the person responsible.
So far, police have reported no arrests or determined a possible motive for the attack.
Specialized detectives are working to identify the suspect and collect evidence to clarify the circumstances of the shooting.
Two men remain in critical condition
Among the injured are four men and two women, aged between 33 and 46 years.
According to police, a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times and remains in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. While another man, 36 years old, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was admitted in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
The other four victims were hospitalized and reported in stable condition.
According to information released by local media, a call to the 911 emergency service alerted about an intense burst of gunshots in the area.
The complainant claimed to have heard up to 30 explosions and reported that several people had been hit by bullets, including a neighbor who was on a porch and a woman.
The police have not officially confirmed the number of shots fired, but the investigation in the sector is active.
Investigations continue
The shooting adds to a series of episodes of armed violence recorded over the weekend in different cities in the United States.
Chicago authorities asked the community for help and asked anyone with information about the attack to contact investigators.
For now, the person responsible remains at large and the motive for the shooting has not been determined.
