They arrest “El Palma”, alleged member of the CJNG and generator of violence in southern Mexico

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Guerrero reported on the arrest of Reynier “N”, alias “Palma”, identified as an alleged member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and identified by the authorities as one of the main generators of violence in the port of Acapulco. The arrest was made in compliance with an arrest warrant for the crime of qualified homicide.

According to the investigation file, the detainee is accused of participating in the murder of taxi driver Javier “N”, which occurred on June 16 on Costera Miguel Alemán Avenue, one of the main roads in the tourist destination located in the state of Guerrero.

The Prosecutor's Office indicated that the investigations establish that Reynier “N” allegedly fired a firearm at the victim while he was behind the wheel of his public transportation unit. The driver died at the scene as a result of injuries caused by the gunshots.

In a statement, the agency assured that "there is information that establishes that the detainee is related to the criminal group "CJNG", one of the main generators of violence in the port."

Joint operation and judicial process

The capture was the result of a coordinated operation between agents from the Guerrero Prosecutor's Office, the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the National Guard, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the State Police. According to ministerial investigations, the attack occurred around 1:00 in the afternoon, when the taxi driver was traveling towards the Zócalo of Acapulco.

The authorities maintain that individuals traveling on a motorcycle overtook the vehicle in front of the Playa Manzanillo laundry facilities and fired multiple shots. After the attack, the driver died inside the unit, while security elements cordoned off the area for the start of forensic investigations.

After his arrest, Reynier “N” was placed at the disposal of the control judge who issued the arrest warrant, an authority that will determine his legal situation in the next hearings, in accordance with due process and under the principle of presumption of innocence.

The arrest occurs in a context of persistent violence in Guerrero, an entity where various organized crime groups operate. Acapulco continues to be considered a priority municipality for security strategies due to the high rates of homicides and other high-impact crimes.

Although the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has maintained that Acapulco is making progress in its economic recovery after the damage caused by Hurricane Otis in 2023, insecurity continues to represent one of the main challenges for the port, where authorities maintain coordinated operations to contain the activity of criminal organizations such as the CJNG.
