CBP detains an American who tried to cross the border with 42 kilos of methamphetamine
The drug shipment was transported in a vehicle that was trying to enter US territory through the San Ysidro port of entry.
Agents from the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized almost 94 pounds of methamphetamine that were transported in a vehicle that was trying to enter United States territory through the San Ysidro border crossing.
The seizure occurred during a routine inspection, when officers detected irregularities in a car crossing from Tijuana to San Diego.
After a more exhaustive review with the support of non-intrusive inspection tools and a canine team, they located 71 packages hidden in different compartments of the vehicle.
According to authorities, the drug weighed approximately 93.8 pounds (around 42.5 kilograms) of methamphetamine, and was transported by a United States citizen.
The driver was arrested and placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities in the United States to face the judicial process, while both the vehicle and the illicit cargo were seized as part of the investigation.
The CBP highlighted that this type of seizure is part of the permanent actions to combat drug trafficking at the ports of entry on the border between Mexico and the United States, considered strategic points for narcotics trafficking.
Authorities did not release the identity of the detainee or further details about the investigation, which remains ongoing.
