A 19-year-old man was accused in Colorado of brutally murdering and dismembering his girlfriend, hiding her remains under the bed, and then trying to convince the police that it was a suicide suicide, authorities reported.
The accused was identified as Luis Antonio Mendez Hernandez, who faces three counts of murder—including first-degree murder with extreme callousness—plus an additional charge of tampering with a deceased human body, for the death of Griselda Amarilis Lopez-Racancoj, the mother of his daughter.
Discovery of the body and arrest
According to a statement from the Frisco Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight on December 29, 2025, to a call about a reported medical emergency at a local residence.
Upon arrival, first responders found the body of an adult female. Due to the suspicious circumstances, authorities obtained a search warrant and arrested Hernandez later that day. The probable cause affidavit remained sealed until it was made public by a judge this week.
Remains hidden under the bed
According to the affidavit obtained by local media, during the inspection of the residence, several residents reported seeing a bag under the bed in the room that Hernandez and Lopez-Racancoj shared.
Upon searching the area, investigators found the dismembered body of the victim inside a white garbage bag, hidden under the bed. A six-inch steak knife covered in blood was recovered from the defendant's bedroom closet, as well as pillows with stain patterns consistent with having been pressed against a person's face.
Contradictions and suspicious messages
One of the residents of the property stated that the couple had argued and ended their relationship on the night of December 27, and that upon seeing Hernandez again two days later, He had visible scratches on his neck and chest. Another roommate reported that the defendant sent “strange” text messages, suddenly claiming that Lopez-Racancoj was suicidal, although he refused to reveal her whereabouts when confronted. During an interview after being read his rights, Hernandez claimed he found his partner dead when he returned to bed after feeding his daughter in the early morning. He alleged he did not call 911 out of fear and shock, and suggested the victim may have committed suicide. However, according to investigators, the defendant admitted to wrapping the body in a blanket, hiding it under the bed, and searching the internet for how to dispose of a body, contradicting his initial statement. Hernandez remains in custody at the Summit County Jail, with bail set at $5 million. As of now, the date of his next court appearance has not been announced.
