The Congress of the state of Sinaloa approved the leave request of governor Rubén Rocha Moya and appointed Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde as interim governor, who will assume the position temporarily while the president separates from his duties.
The license granted to Rocha Moya is for a period greater than 30 days, which allowed the Legislative Power to appoint an interim head person of the state Executive in accordance with the local constitutional framework.
Bonilla Valverde, who served as General Secretary of Government, was ratified by the State Congress and becomes the first woman to occupy the governorship of Sinaloa, albeit provisionally.
According to the newspaper El Financiero, the appointment was made in an extraordinary session, after the legislators analyzed and approved the request for separation of the position presented by Rocha Moya.
The new interim governor will remain in office for the duration of the leave of the Executive head, in a political context marked by the need to provide continuity to the state administration.
After taking place as interim Governor, Bonilla Valverde thanked the legislators for her appointment and expressed her solidarity with Rocha Moya, who He in his license application assured that the US accusations against him are false and malicious, which when the time will “prove firmly.”
“Governor, the immense majority of the people of Sinaloa know it and we are sure that this will be. I express my deep solidarity,” he stated.
Previously, Bonilla Valverde had noted on social networks that the accusation against Rubén Rocha was unfounded and lacking veracity.
“I point out clearly that the allegations against him are unfounded, lack truthfulness, and do not contribute to institutional stability,” he wrote.
