Los Angeles County Prosecutor's Office Requests Delay in Sexual Abuse Settlement Payments
Los Angeles County Prosecutor Nathan Hochman Investigates Possible Fraud in $4 Billion Child Abuse Settlement Claims
The Los Angeles County prosecutor's office next week will ask a judge to delay for at least six months payments stemming from a more than $4 billion out-of-court settlement over allegations of child sexual abuse at probation centers and camps.
The deferral for payments is on the grounds that the vast majority of the claim for damages could be fraudulent, the prosecutor's office said in a news release.
A motion filed June 10 in Los Angeles Superior Court by the district attorney's office said a preliminary criminal investigation into possible fraud led investigators to believe that up to 81% of the damage claims may be false.
