A Mexican man who was on the run for more than a decade before being arrested in his native country last year for allegedly murdering his wife on their wedding night in Illinois has been extradited to the United States, the FBI said.
Arnoldo Jiménez was repatriated to the US more than a year after his capture on January 30, 2025 by Mexican authorities in collaboration with US law enforcement in Monterrey, Mexico.
Jiménez was on the FBI's most wanted list. At the time of his arrest, he was the fourth most wanted fugitive in the United States.
“Our personnel managed to bring the FBI's most wanted fugitive, Arnoldo Jiménez, back to the United States,” the FBI stated in a statement published in X.
“No matter how much time has passed or where a criminal is in the world, the FBI will never relent in its efforts to achieve justice.”
Jimenez, 42, allegedly fatally stabbed Estrella Carrera, 26, on May 12, 2012, the day after their wedding, according to the FBI.
The murder is believed to have occurred inside his 2006 black Maserati.
Authorities said Jimenez then dragged Carrera's body to his apartment in Burbank, Illinois, where he left it in a bathtub. She was later found with her wedding dress still on.
Authorities have not revealed the motive for the murder or the date of his first court appearance.
