Mexican authorities kill “El Texas”, regional leader of Los Chapitos in Culiacán
Cristhian Guadalupe Pérez Pérez, alias "El Texas", was identified as an operator close to Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar
Federal forces killed Cristhian Guadalupe Pérez Pérez, alias “El Texas” or “El 01”, identified by authorities as the head of the Los Chapitos faction in Culiacán and one of the main generators of violence in Sinaloa.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed that the alleged criminal operator died during an operation carried out by elements of the Mexican Army, in coordination with state corporations, after military personnel were attacked by armed civilians.
According to the official, four people were also arrested in the action and firearms, grenades, vehicles, tactical equipment and drugs were seized.
According to official information, “El Texas”, 36 years old, was identified as responsible for coordinating the operations of Los Chapitos in the capital of Sinaloa and was related to crimes such as homicide, kidnapping, extortion and vehicle theft.
Reports from Mexican media such as the newspaper La Jornada indicate that Pérez Pérez assumed a more important role within the criminal organization after the death of Jorge Humberto Figueroa Benítez, alias “La Perris”, considered one of the main commanders of the Los Chapitos armed group.
He was also identified as an operator close to Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar.
His death occurs in the midst of the internal dispute that the Sinaloa Cartel maintains between the factions of Los Chapitos and Los Mayos, a conflict that since 2024 has caused an escalation of violence in the entity and has led to various federal operations to capture leaders and operators of both criminal groups.
The authorities indicated that the actions are part of the strategy to weaken the operational structures of organized crime in Sinaloa, although so far no further details have been released about the investigation derived from the operation.
