Rvssian, ready to have his own story
Their debut album will be a mix of cultures, rhythms and sounds from various parts of the world.
It is possible that half of humanity has enjoyed, danced or sung some of Rvssian's songs. Only very few people know who this guy is.
But that could change very soon, because the Jamaican producer, who is behind hits by artists such as Bad Bunny, Rihanna, Carlos Santana and Rauw Alejandro, is determined to change his story.
“Some fans and people have asked me if I should release an album,” he said. “It's like the right time, and that's how I feel too.”
Rvssian, a nickname given to him at school when he was little because he was the only one with white skin on an island with predominantly black inhabitants, has already released two songs from what will be his debut album, “Pongo” —with Rauw Alejandro— and more recently “Tattuu”, with the Panamanian singer Sech, and the producer, composer and singer from Lagos, Nigeria, Lojay.
This mix of cultures, rhythms and sounds from different parts of the world are one of the characteristics of Rvssian's music, and will also be the same for his debut album, where many other guests will appear, whose names he preferred to keep until the album is released.
“I like to mix culture, and I think that, people may think that Sech is from Panama, I am from Jamaica, Lojay is from Nigeria, and that we are very different, but I think we are more similar than different,” he said. “Because if they say that Jamaica was inspired by reggaeton, they can say that it comes from Panama, and from Panama they were inspired by Jamaica, and from Jamaica we were inspired by Africa.”
The mixes of Rvssian, whose given name is Tarik Luke Johnston, are famous because he unites dancehall with reggaeton, as has happened with songs like “Krippy Kush”, with Farruko and Bad Bunny. The song, one of the anthems of Latin trap, has exceeded 900 million views.
“Santa”, featuring Rauw Alejandro and Ayra Starr, is also a massive hit that fuses Afrobeat and urban rhythms. And “Si tú lo deja”, with Bad Bunny, Farruko and Nicky Jam, is one of the key songs in the initial explosion of trap in Spanish.
Rvssian's album does not yet have a release date, although it is known that it will be released at the end of this year and will include about fourteen tracks. After the premiere, the producer will embark on a tour in which he will have guests depending on the plaza in which he performs.
With so much attention on him, Rvssian sees no better time to present himself as the star of his own album.
“I don't want to do it when no one is interested,” he said. “I want to do it while I continue running and as long as I have the passion to do it […] And just to have my story and part of my legacy.”
